Salient Points:

Class 3B or 4 lasers, or intense light sources, must be used following professionally-drawn up protocols produced by an expert medical or dental practitioner;

These protocols must be supported by a raft of written procedures, particularly dealing with the safety aspects of the device(s) used;

Users of these devices must be appropriately trained in their use, risks, effects, precautions and contingencies. This training must be regularly updated;

Users must have access to advice from a certificated laser protection adviser;


Person(s) with on-site responsibility must be appointed;


Good treatment records must be maintained;


Staff and client safety must be maintained at all times by the use of controlled areas, signs, appropriate eyewear and safety procedures;


Devices must be subject to regular maintenance.
